Properties of organic polysilazane resins

Properties of organic polysilazane resins: These are organic-inorganic hybrid resins featuring an Si-N backbone and excellent thermal stability. The Si-N bonds are reactive with water, alcohols, and acids, facilitating easy cross-linking and curing; the resins can also react with various functional groups such as hydroxyl resins and isocyanates. They offer versatile curing options (moisture, heat, or UV), low liquid viscosity for easy application, minimal curing shrinkage, and high transparency. Cured coatings exhibit high hardness (6–9H), wear resistance, and a dense structure with excellent barrier properties. Upon high-temperature pyrolysis, they convert into Si₃N₄ or SiCN ceramics—making them important ceramic precursors—and can withstand temperatures of 1500–1800°C in inert atmospheres. They offer resistance to acids, alkalis, salt spray, and UV radiation, as well as hydrophobic, anti-fouling, and insulating properties. Drawbacks: Raw materials react readily with moisture, requiring moisture-proof storage; thick films are prone to porosity and brittleness, and costs are relatively high. Applications: High-temperature anti-corrosion coatings, wear-resistant protective coatings, ceramic precursors, and electronic insulation coatings.
